Mascarello

Azienda Agricola

M ascarello is widely known as the epitome of traditionally crafted, classic and timeless Barolos, widely recognized by all major international wine critics (Robert Parker, Wine Spectator, Decanter, Gambero Rosso, etc.) as one of the pinnacles in Nebbiolo winemaking.

The members of the G.Mascarello family have been growing vines for more than 150 years, first as farmers running the Marquise Colbert-Falletti’s estate in La Morra, and then in their own property since the late 1800s. Today the winery is run by 4th generation Mauro Mascarello, with the help of his son Giuseppe jr., who graduated in enology and viticulture besides his legal studies.

The G.Mascarello estate extends over 15 hectares of vineyards, all located within the Barolo wine-growing area and, precisely, in the renowned villages of Castiglione Falletto and Monforte d’Alba. The famous Monprivato Cru (Castiglione) has been acquired piece by piece by the Mascarello family all over the XXth century, and it is today a Monopole, much like La Tâche and la Romanée-Conti in Burgundy.

Vinegrowing and winemaking chez G.Mascarello is strictly traditional. The prestigious, long-lived Barolo “Monprivato” undergoes a 3-weeks long maceration and ages for 40 months in large Slavonia oak casks prior to bottling. All Mascarello wines are appreciated by the amateurs of authentic complex terroir wines from Piemonte.
